This show was historic! As I understand it, the only way the boys could play here, was if they put tickets on sale only the day before, and not announce it as a Grateful Dead concert. Still, the heads found out, and the show sold out in minutes, and tons more people arrived than could get in.
And thenduring the second set – it happened… out of the “Playin’ Reprise” jam, those notes we longed to hear… da da dumdum da da dumdum… Dark Star crashed into the lives of the latter day deadheads! And then “Drums>Space >Death Don’t have no Mercy”! And then, as if this mana from heaven was not enough, the encore “Attics of My Life”. It had been so many many years…
This was in the pre internet days for most of us, but word spread fast! Somehow, we all knew by the next morning what had been played. I had a tape within a week!
THIS WAS HISTORY!
