Bob Weir
joins Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band in the Grate Room
in preparation for #TerrapinStation40 at Lockn Festival
In two weeks, Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band, with Bob Weir will be playing the entire Terrapin Station album, live at the Lockn Festival (Aug 24-27, arrington VA www.locknfestival.com), in celebration of the albums 40th year since it’s release in what is perhaps the Grateful Dead‘s most cherished year, 1977.
Last night’s show at Terrapin Crossroads was easily a rehearsal for the Terrapin Family Band playing with Bob Weir, though they have all played together before. The band has two high profile gigs upcoming, the aforementioned Lockn Festival set, and the sold out perfromance at Sound Summit on Mount Tamalpais!
Many of the songs Bob sung are Grateful Dead classics that are regulars for the TFB, he also included a few of his new “Campfire” songs from his 2016 album Blue Mountain: “Gonesville”, “Only a River, and “Lay My Lilly Down”. Of special note was Grahame Lesh’s rendition of “Jack O’Roses” part of Robert Hunter’s complete Terrapin Suite, but a song the Grateful Dead never performed (at least to my knowledge, please send links if I am wrong!) – perhaps they are cooking up some extras as part of the Lockn’ Terrapin tribute set!
