DEADHEAD RADIO!
This has been a labor of love of mine for several years. I had the idea to create a playlist that would allow me to listen to Grateful Dead music all the time, without actually listening to nothing but the Grateful Dead. What? This list is about 2/3 GD and 1/3 other artists doing songs they played. Think of it as “six degrees of GD.” For example, you’ll hear The Dixie Cups do “Iko Iko”, The Wild Tchoupitoulas do “Hey Pocky Way”, Elmore James’ do “It Hurts Me Too”, Howlin’ Wolf do “Smokestack Lightning”, or The Rascals do “Good Lovin’” etc.
I did an exhaustive amount of research using Deadbase and Allmusic.com to identify as much of their source material and individual members discographies as possible, as well as all the rarest sit-ins and novelties you could imagine…it’s full of pleasant surprises.
That one time Jerry played on an Art Garfunkel track? Got it.
The inspiration for Mind Left Body jams? Got it.
Songs you know and love played in myriad unfamiliar ways? Got ‘em.
Best of all, you could play it for 26 days straight without a repeat.
For best results I recommend shuffle mode with a 3-second crossfade (see Settings> Playback> Crossfade).
